Let Your Gift Be a Book in the New Year!

11 December 2025

About the Project

The “New Year Book Tree” initiative, organized by the Kadir Has University Information Center, is being held for the 12th time this year. Over the past 12 years, the project has provided regular annual book support to primary, secondary, high schools, and correctional institutions.

The aim of this initiative is to support children’s and young people’s access to quality information resources, strengthen the collections of school libraries, and promote a sustainable model of collaboration between the university and the wider community.

Criteria for Donated Books

Books donated to the project should be suitable for safe and enjoyable use by students. For this reason, the following qualities are expected:

  • The book should be in good physical condition
(complete, clean, and with minimally worn pages and cover)

  • It should not contain heavy markings, excessive drawings, or significant wear

  • It should be an original published edition
(banderol-marked publisher copies; photocopies, pirated, or unregistered materials are not eligible for the project)

  • It should be pedagogically appropriate
(language, themes, and content suitable for primary, secondary, and high school students)

  • It should fall within categories that support the development of school libraries, such as literature, science, technology, arts, personal development, or other educational materials

Sustainability and Reuse of Existing Books

Aligned with the university’s sustainability and social responsibility values, the project prioritizes reintroducing books already available in households and personal collections that are in good physical and pedagogical condition.

If such books are not available, contributors may consider supporting the project by purchasing affordable new books and/or by providing gift cards.

New Book Purchase Options

If you do not have suitable books to donate, you may support the project by purchasing affordable children’s and young adult books. Online retailers frequently offer seasonal campaigns and discounts, particularly during book fair periods. In previous years, many members of our academic staff contributed through this method.

Support with Gift Cards

For donors who prefer flexibility or who may find book selection challenging, purchasing a gift card from an online bookseller is an effective way to support the initiative. When gift cards are shared with the Information Center, appropriate books are selected based on the needs of school libraries.
